LB Comets v Crawley White Tornadoes Cup Round 2

On a foggy Sunday morning, Comets set off for a Cup Round 2 match minus a goal shooter, due to illness, & with Angela Wood (C) stepping into her shoes – what a brave lady! On arriving – great – the opposition, a Premier Division team – Crawley White Tornadoes! Comets scored first – was this to be a historical moment. The Comets shooting pair of Jenny Kirn & Angela were on a high and, despite tall defence, scored some amazing goals giving Comets a 9-4 lead.
The 2nd quarter saw Comets starting to take command of the game – much to the amazement of Tornadoes – was this really happening to them! By half-time Comets led by 17-11. The 3rd quarter, usually Comets nemesis – not today however - by adapting their tactics to a short ball game (more work for the ‘old’ legs) & with accurate passing between the Centre Court players, the shooters were able to increase the scoreline. Brilliant interceptions by Pip Jarvis (WD) & superb defending by Shelley Framp(GK) & Mel Smith (GD) forced errors to occur by the Tornadoes attack enabling Comets to increase the lead to 27-14 going into the final quarter. Positional changes were made by the opposition & with 4 goals being scored in quick succession after the break, Comets had to re-charge their batteries to maintain their hard fought lead & with great relief at the final whistle, the score was 34-24 to Comets.
A brilliant display of netball – well done team & a special mention must go to Angela – what a star!
