Comets v Red Stripes Sunday 13th March 2011

After a slow start for Red Stripes, Comets dominated play with Red Stripes struggling to find their shooters. Some lovely passes by Angela Wood got passed the tough defence of Red Stripes, for Pat Geddes and Jenny Kearn to convert, to finish the quarter 9-3 to Comets.

2nd quarter Red Stripes were getting into the game but still unforced errors lead to Comets making the most of the opportunities. Barbara Walshaw made some lovely tips giving the possession back to Comets, and this was followed by great shooting from Jenny Kearn adding to the score which finished the quarter at 19-7 to Comets.

3rd quarter Shelley Framp came off and Trish Travell came on as GK then shortly after a tumble saw Lesley Woodman come off and Anita Hearn join as WA. Red Stripes got into their stride and their GK managed to pick off ball after ball, and their attack had also found form and Comets struggled to hold them off. Comets in turn also made so lovely interceptions mid court but Red Stripes made it very hard to convert these, with Red Stripes making great efforts into closing the deficit to 25-20 to Comets

4th quarter Comets battled the new invigorated Red Stripes to hold onto the lead with steady play, and had possession of the ball more than the score shows. Again Red Stripes defence played a strong part in not allowing Comets to score. Comets centre court had some fabulous play from Barbara and Angela and the defence of Caryn Fripp and Trish Travell took back the ball several times to deny Red Stripes the comeback they were fighting for. Final score 27-23 to Comets
