Comets v Seven Up Red - Divisional Cup

It’s Divisional Cup Time!  Where teams are rewarded for each quarter they win. This format suits the Comets girls, who always start each quarter in high spirits and with great expectations. Today was no exception. As usual Comets let the opposition get a few goals on the score card first, is it because Comets are a friendly team who like to make guest teams feel at home or is it because it takes them a while for the old bones to get going, who can tell. Comets cranked up to speed and clawed back the lead to take the first quarter 8 – 7.

The second quarter was the star turn for Comets, the new shooting formation started to gel and superb defensive work in the circle by Pat West and Shelley Framp leading to a resounding 13-5 victory for Comets.

Oh the 3rd quarter! Ever the bane of Comets games.  The Comets started the quarter well and managed to gain a comfortable lead. Unfortunately Comets thought it a bit too comfortable and minds wandered and passes went astray. Seven up seized their chance and pulled back to even the score at 6 - 6.

The quarter time talk obviously did the trick and Comets started the final quarter well and took the lead. Player of the Match, Nicky Ward, nimbly swerving her way past the opposition to a prime position into the shooting circle on numerous occasions gave Comets inspiration and they forged ahead. The opposition started to lose heart and Comets took the quarter 8 -3.

Final score Comets 3 1/2  Seven Up Red 1/2.
