Comets were away to Red Stripes at Lealands in Luton. Comets started slowly and struggled to convert the opportunities, with Red Stripes doing better the first quarter finished 5-9 to Red Stripes. The second quarter was better with Comets starting to get into the game, but Red Stripes defence were not going to let them have it too easy intercepting time and again. Comets matched this with good defence at the other end, but Comets attack won the quarter and left them just one goal down at 15-16. The third quarter was full of drama, with substitutes for Comets coming onto the court, and a shuffle of the defence, they were able to smooth out the errors of the previous quarters. Then the Red Stripes GK left the court to get a back line ball and collapsed into the fence. Comets first Aiders rushed to her side and found to their alarm that she had stopped breathing and had no pulse, instantly moving her into the recovery position reinstated vital signs. An Ambulance was called, and whilst on the line, she recovered enough to speak. A few minutes later the paramedic arrived and took over. The game was moved to an alternative court to continue. Comets attack had a hard fight to retain the ball, and Jenny Kearn and Pat Geddes did well to convert the majority of the chances that came their way. Some great tips from Pip Jarvis, managed to turn the possession of the ball back to Comets advantage, which turned the third quarter to comets in the lead by 1 goal 25-24. The final quarter was a battle of wills, with great interceptions by our defence Caryn Fripp, Shelley Framp and Pip Jarvis, but also the Red Stripes Centre, took several inceptions back from Comets. With lovely centre court play from Angela Wood, and Anita Hearn enabled Comets to continue the fight to convert the chances that they had fought for. The game finished with Comets winning 34 -32. The final winner was Red Stripes GK who walked away after some good treatment and advice. Comets team;- Michelle Channer, Jenny Kearn, Lesley Woodman, Angela Wood, Caryn Fripp, Shelley Framp, Pip Jarvis, Pat Geddes, Anita Hearn. |
