Comets v Black Pearls

Autumn is with us and as always this sees the Luton Regional Sports Centre pitch turn into a set from Wuthering Heights. As usual the Comets girls got off to a sluggish start as they assessed the conditions and the opposition. Once the team developed their strategies they started to pull ahead and gained a 2 goal lead at the end of the 1st quarter.

What a change in the 2nd quarter, Comets having discovered that the Pearl’s GS was the main threat switched tactics to isolate the GS in the shooting circle with a 2 person defence as often as possible. Player of the match Mel Smith made some amazing interceptions which enabled Comets to surge ahead to a nine goal lead. Pearls only managing 3 goals during this quarter.

Comets know that the 3rd quarter can be their downfall, it is when they start to tire and may become complacent if they have a lead. The Comets girls battled on, helped by the wind in their favour.  A few stray passes made the game more even but Comets dug in and managed to not only keep their lead but increase it by a goal.

The final quarter arrived and with it the sunshine. By now both the teams are tiring and are tempted to bask in the sun’s rays.  Pearl’s started to make basic passing and footwork mistakes which allowed the more disciplined Comets to pull further ahead to a 12 goal win
